How to mix a nice, vivid green
Hi Steemit!
I was doing some color mixing and thought I would share the results.
If you are struggling with mixing greens, then this post will probably interest you. As Pablo Picasso once said:
"They'll sell you thousands of greens. Veronese green and emerald green and cadmium green and any sort of green you like, but that particular green, never."
I started by rounding up all the different yellows and blues which I had in my studio:
I then placed these colors on my palette ready to be mixed. These are the paints:
Cadmium yellow light
Naples yellow
Cadmium yellow
Yellow ochre
Manganese blue
Cobalt blue
Ultramarine blue
I then went and mixed all the different combinations.
What was the most vivid green?
The most vivid green was made by mixing cadmium yellow light with manganese blue. This is because both of these colors do not contain much, if any, red.
To mix vivid secondary colors (like green) you need to avoid mixing all three primary colors together. In other words, you need to mix colors which are close to eachother on the color wheel.
