NEW WORKS FROM THE STUDIO (graphite and ink)

in #art7 years ago

Hello everybody,

time flies... it really does.

Not only because it's already November but also because I recently rediscovered some old photos that I took of my wife many years ago.

These have always been some of my favorite pictures because they just perfectly capture the moment and mood of that certain morning.

Taken in a lovely hotel room while still a little hung over from the night before, filled with good memories and fun.

I chose 4 (out of probably 10) pictures and finally felt ready to draw them.

"Finally" really hits the nail on the head because it has been 6 years now that these pictures were taken and lay untouched in a folder of my computer.

Back then, I tried working with them right away when we got back home from that party night but I somehow never really found a good "access" to the photos (although I REALLY wanted to draw them).

The quality was a bit to blurry and dark for my realistic drawings and it was kind of difficult to capture the details. I was still very much into photorealism during that time but also felt the urge to create something new, more loose and abstract.

And so it took me 6 years to find the right time, the right way and the right mood.

It's pencil and ink on shitty thin paper; paper size is 8.5˝ by 11˝ and the drawings are accordingly small.

Obviously I was channeling my inner Frank Miller and also reactivated my old inking skills while adding some abstract graphite to it.

It felt good to experiment some more and working with ink again.

And I just love to draw in series.

To me personally, it has always been an important part to work on one "theme" a couple of times. It's a good way to reflect, to (maybe) change minor things here and there, to learn and to really focus on the drawing or painting.

Parallel to these drawings I still have unfinished and way more detailed works in the studio.

These will be completed in the upcoming weeks but right now I am very happy with these pieces that were completed yesterday.

I hope you like this 4-part series as much as I do and as always: thanks a lot for the nice comments, upvotes and resteems.

Cheers,

D

Nicely done, it would be perfect if you can show how you did those arts.
