NEW WORK FROM THE STUDIO

in #art7 years ago

Hello everybody,

wow, the feedback to my previous "skull post" (and all the other skull posts, as well) has been awesome.

It really amazes me how you people enjoy the ballpoint drawings so much. I really haven't done too many of those in the past but I feel very inspired to keep them coming... maybe especially for the great Steemit community; if you want them, you should get them. :)

Maybe I will also use this particular ballpoint technique for some of my figurative drawings, too. I am curious myself in which direction this could go...

So, big thanks to all of you for keeping my head busy with new ideas and creating new stuff!

Like I wrote in my last post I am very busy at the moment working on new art daily.

No matter how limited my time is, I am sitting down in my studio every day and work on new drawings as long as I can.

It feels good to be back in the grind.

When I was working on my two art books I had long and lonely days at my drawing table. An early start in the morning, a short lunch break and drawing till late at night. Nothing but art.

It was a very productive time in my career and you learn a lot about your work (and about yourself) when you just have to draw each and every day. Sometimes to meet the deadline for the printer, sometimes to finish everything for the next gallery show.

Today I just enjoy working on new stuff and seeing all these new (and sometimes old) directions my work is taking me.

Experimenting with new tools and styles, rediscovering my skills and developing new ones.

With so much input from my good photographer friend Lars Kommienezuspadt I work on so many different pieces at the same time.

Sometimes I am right in the middle of a new drawing when I find another great shot that I just HAVE TO draw RIGHT NOW!

It's weird but I guess it was always like that. I used to work on 4-6 drawings at the same time when I completed my books. Always readjusting my eyes from so many details in one drawing to just "block out" some parts in another one.

So here are a few excerpts from my studio.

It's everything from quick studies that I finished within five to ten minutes to more detailed pencil drawings; some are done, others might still need another round.

Sometimes I add some ink but mostly it's only graphite on paper.

I love to play around with different styles and work with one photo all over again and again. Speeding up my work flow and forcing myself to slow down when it comes to more details. It's pretty challenging at times because I just LOVE details. Adding another sharp line here, doing some more shading there.

But I also begin to enjoy more abstract graphics, as well, which I hardly did in the past. Not for myself or from other artists in general. So this is something I will definitely pursue in the future.

New directions are fantastic.

Enjoy the new works and let me know what you think.

Cheers,

D

Lovely series, I love the loose faint pencil lines :) They retain the energy that goes into drawing fast.
