DRAWING MY WAY

in #art7 years ago (edited)

Hello everybody,

this post is a little follow up to my previous one.

I found some more drawings of mine that show pretty well how I developed my own interpretation of Pin-Up Art over the years.

After my comic-works I started exploring the Pin-Up / Erotic Art field like so many other artists who are interested in capturing the female form.

I looked at whatever erotic art I could find: from Pin-Up (adult) magazines, traditional figurative painters with different styles, erotic photography and even fashion photography. The internet has always been a great place to do research and always finding new sources inspiration. Since everything became more and more connected and literally "linked" to each other the amount of new stuff was everywhere.

It turned out pretty quickly that my focus was set on realistic art. Then, more and more, to photo-realistic or even hyperrealistic art. All this with my "splash" of black ink (or in this case very dark pencils) to create my own little niche.

When I started drawing women at the beginning I always wanted to catch the whole pose. Very little shading, not too much distraction and focusing on the full female form.

This early drawing is a perfect example:

Step by step, I slowly began using a bigger palette of pencils with darker shades.

This surely took a while because I was very much influenced by all the airbrush artists with those smooth techniques and I just got away from heavy black and white (ink) contrasts. But in order to draw what I actually saw in my models I had to start working with contrast and detail.

This next piece was a milestone for me:

This was the first time I managed to create more "depth" in my drawings.

Using softer pencils on the right paper did the trick and I somehow found my path to the next level.

The next two pieces show how far I developed my art.

The first one is a smaller preliminary sketch, the second one the bigger, final drawing.

I can not really remember but these 2 where created when I was studying painting and graphic art; and this was after all my "comic years".

My graphic art instructor who was absolutely NOT a big fan of realistic art taught me all the good things that I hated the most at the beginning:

Composition, angles, details, abstract thinking and creating and many more things that would take me further away from the "perfect and beautiful Pin-Up pose".

This is no. 05 of a 5- piece series of drawings of the model Bianca Beauchamp. You can find some of the others in my very first post here on Steemit.

Talking about progress, I would say that this drawing contains everything I wrote about in this post: focusing on a certain part of the body (even cropping the face), playing with shadows and reflection, using the whole pencil palette to create the illusion of a full body rubber catsuit.

I am excited to see where my newest works will take me, I'll find out very soon... and you, too.

Cheers,

D
