Importance of cultural learning to children

in #art7 years ago

My pupils. As an art and culture lover. On our school cultural day, my yoruba students dressed in their full cultural attire.
Culture is what binds us together. The benefit of teaching children our culture cannot be over emphasized. The benefits include
1- it is a medium of teaching children need to respect the elderly and their ancestors. This teaching of respect should not be left in the hand of class teachers as the bulk of their life later on will be outside the school environment. Parents should not hesitate to teach children about the culture and tradition of their ancestors.

2- child cultural education instil the habit of team work. This is evident in the fact that they tend to know they are not alone in a world of their own but have others around too from the same lineage

3- it builds self-esteem and confidence in the child. Many children have lost confidence and self-esteem as a result of the environment they find themselves. Many kids outside their ethic nationality homes tend to suffer inferiority as a result of not knowing about their own cultural heritage

4- cultural teaching brings about exposure and diversity to the child. The child tend to know different people have different culture and tends to accept it. This goes a long way to reduce bully among children as no child will want to force his view on another child.

This is a clarion call to all parents in diaspora to educate their children on their indigenous cultures even in the heat of westernization.
