Reflection On Eternity
Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end. ~ Ecclesiastes 3:11Are we alone? Are we the only universe out there? Despite technology, our views are still severely limited. The universe is vast and we are inside the fishbowl, unable to see beyond it.
What exists beyond light?
What is the shape of space-time?
Is it flat and goes on forever?
If particles can be put together in some finite ways, isn't it possible that this universe repeats itself and there exists a possibility of a parallel universe out there?
These questions of the unknown spawned from our longing for eternity. Longing that is akin to a pang of nostalgia, for times we have never experienced. And perhaps this wistfulness is like the days we are sad without knowing why or we pine for someone we have never met or places we have never been to.
Perhaps it feels like listening to some songs that make us weep with crushing regret over all the past loves we have never lost.
Perhaps it feels like a strong yearning for a sanctuary exists long before we were born, either in our mothers' wombs or even beyond. A time exists without pictures, a time even memories don't recall, just a sense of detachment from where we were before we came to earth.
There is definitely something more than this transient world. Our longing is not just woeful melancholia. We are pre-programmed with a hunger for eternity because God knows nothing in life truly satisfies. And despite the joys and vicissitudes of life, all are temporary and this world is truly not our home.
