Burning the Midnight Acrylic // This is how I heal

in #art7 years ago

Hi!

Welcome back to my studio,

I've been sharing art on Steemit for a little over a year now, and the feedback has been remarkable. The various characters we have here - a community ever-growing - have proved to be valuable inspiration for an unlearned artist as myself.

It doesn't take much to start painting. Maybe a little confidence, and a few supplies. To continue painting is another matter altogether. Like any hand co-ordinated activity, it centers the mind - allows us to focus. To someone practised in handicrafts such as quilting, tiling, or gem working, painting is a familiar, yet liberating activity.

There are skills which, when transferred to the canvas, translate a type of style. It seems as though the various ways in which we can manipulate matter all have unique ways in which they affect the mind.

My paintings reflect the subtle yet powerful divide between form and formless. Anyone can think of a thousand different names for these ideas. "chaos," "order," and so on.

It's not entirely clear where this divide lies, or if it exists at all.

Is the sense of order you believe in simply within your mind?

I originally named this painting "Red Field," to go along with another "Blue Field."

As it went, there came a crisis, in which my normal modes of coping no longer sufficed.
The events that occurred would not be settled by mere haphazard spontaneous painting. There had to come a sense of coherence. An idea.

I needed to understand what was going on inside.

This painting is a depiction of both my hands attempting to screw up and destroy the collection of energy, only to have another type of order emerge altogether.

There is a playful edge through black pastel scribbles, a release of care about what is happening.

Somewhere along the way, things get hard enough that you no longer care about the truth. You only care about what will solve the feelings inside of you.

2 pieces, meant to be hung an inch apart. They relay a sense of formation through accident. And it totally was just a big accident.

But there happened to be water dripping, a downward motion. Various energies playing but a sense of solitude was there. I wanted to make a peaceful place to hangout for a while. Serenity, with a rambunctious assortment of shapes. All sizes and colors, just smash 'em together!

Intimacy (in2me-I-see)

Moving into human forms, I wanted to paint something sexy. I drew on other artists for inspiration, and came out with something abstract enough that I like it, but real enough that you can get the steemy vibe.

The best thing about this painting is that it has sparked a lot of conversation about people's latent homophobia.
Most straight men who look at this painting have a facial contortion, they react for a split second and go back to their posturing.
It's great material for unraveling what we're really thinking underneath.

I mean, let's face it. The fear of anything different is alive and ripe in our culture. It's best to just accept it, not to judge the person, but to directly address the situation with open arms.

Love is the way my friends <3

Thank you for tuning in!
