My challenge to those of you thinking about collecting art.

I challenge you to spend one year's worth of income on original art of your own choosing. I don't care how long it takes, only that you spend this much of your own money. 

I think this is the only way you can come to understand the value of what you're buying.

Do you buy twelve objects, one month of income on each? Do you buy one extremely costly object? Do you buy fifty-two objects, one week of income on each? You have to really think about it. Take your time to explore, it could take years to discover what you really like. 

Don't be afraid to make mistakes. You will. Just recognize that it could cost you a few weeks worth of income. Or six months. The consequences for your choices are real.
