Snippets Of Text For The Fridge

in #art8 years ago (edited)

This is the mashing of my love for typography, cooking and making things. Using tiny snippets from old recipe books, I make little glass tile magnets.

I love how the glass slightly magnifies the font. Being only a tiny piece of a larger recipe, the text is random but I like that too.

I love the creamy yellow paper with the odd pop of colour and old measurements.

I have been making these cute magnets for my Recycled Gallery shop for years. This batch was for a custom order and was the first time I played around with a larger heart shaped glass tile.

Snippets from dessert recipes are more popular, particularly the word chocolate and vanilla.

I prefer traditional stock recipes. My favourite snippets contain words like bouquet garni, cinnamon, flame, orange, celery and heirloom measurements like gill and pint

I collect old recipe books for this purpose, although most of them are too fascinating and unique to chop up.

The creating process is simple and something I have done a hundred times. The hardest part is deciding on what portion of the text to use. Once the glue has dried the new magnets are put out in the shop, displayed on vintage biscuit tins. I love every one of them. I never get bored of making them either.

If you are a little curious, I photographed the making process for you.

Enjoy.

Thanks for stopping by.

Until next time,
