The city swallowed by the jungle - Interesting places

A hundred years ago the city of Angkor was discovered in the jungles of Cambodia. Huge stone temples, doors and walls were covered by a thick and savage vegetation. Around the city there were many canals and a hundred ponds, mostly completely dry. The only sign of life in that spot was the animals of the jungle. Who had built those solid temples and carved those stones?

Little by little, studying the ruins, the archaeologists found answer to much of the mysteries of Angkor.

Hundreds of years ago, Cambodia's country and neighboring territory had been ruled by the people of the Khmer. They built the city of Angkor, which was the capital of their empire.

Among the thousands of reliefs and sculptures that decorate the walls of the temple you can see strange representations of roasted pigs, monkeys that scratch with their long fingernails and warriors armed with spears. These reliefs and sculptures give us an idea of how the people of Angkor lived many years ago.

Recently the city has been cleaned with the help of modern machines and the water has been restored to the canals that once irrigated the rice paddies of this ancient empire.
