About the film "Gone with the Wind"

"Gone with the Wind" based on the novel by Margaret Mitchell. I think that this is absolutely brilliant adaptation. It is absolutely true to the era, style, detail, everything. Perhaps, many do not know that the book "Gone with the Wind" was not published for a long time in the Soviet Union. The fact is that this is a novel about the American slave-owning South on the eve of the Civil War, when the United States divided into North and South due to a different attitude towards slavery. In fact, the question was purely economic and very serious. Without slavery, without free labor, the South perished: he clung to cotton, and slaves gathered cotton. So this "wrong" South is shown by the author with frank sympathy. Not because the author for slavery, not at all. But still, from the Soviet point of view, if you show the slave owners, they still must be monsters, they can not love, compassion, pity, magnanimity, and so on. And here in the novel it turns out that they are normal people, that they are experiencing a real tragedy, when their world, their lives, collapses.

And yet, curiously, but this is already associated with the creation of the book itself: Margaret Mitchell wrote "Gone with the Wind" to the dispute. Her husband said that the woman is not able to write a book that will be read with greedily. She took and wrote. And she wrote nothing more in her life.

As for the film - there is such accuracy of characters, story lines, so carefully and convincingly the atmosphere is recreated ... It's amazing! And everything begins, of course, with the exact hit: Vivien Leigh - the perfect Scarlett O'Hara.

Producers realized that this is a key moment, and the fate of the film will largely depend on who will play the main female role. The difficulty in choosing an actress was also the fact that since the South is quite a special dialect, and besides it is not common, but aristocratic in this case. In America they say very differently: a part of the country and even the state in which a person grew up is easily determined. And at first, when David Selznik chose Vivien Leigh, everyone got up! Englishwoman? How? Impossible! No!!! It turned out that he was in the top ten. And Rhett Butler, played by Clark Gable - the favorite of all women of the United States, a man of incredible charm, sexy is unusual.

A little distraction and tell about Gable. There was one young starlet, not a star-star, but an asterisk, starlet, very pretty. She really liked Clark Gable. And in those years, nylon stockings - superscript fashion, rarity, deficit, just started to do, so expensive, among other things. He gave her a pair of nylon stockings before Christmas, and on one he wrote "Christmas", and on the other "New Year" and left a note, "I really hope that you will let me come to you between Christmas and New Year." Slightly risky, of course, but quite witty. In general, he does not say that such a good actor, not outstanding, if quite honest, but it had a colossal charisma, and this charm of men punched everything. Gable even became more interesting with age. Like Hemingway. Young Hemingway in general is not externally interesting, and after fifty and further Hemingway is straight handsome. Well, in my opinion, of course. Some vice versa. We remember, Dorian Gray somehow turned out differently.

Vivien Leigh - Scarlett needed a decent pair, so Gable - charismatic, irresistible, it perfectly complemented. And all the famous scale scenes, burning Atlanta, for example! It must be remembered that at that time, in the late 1930s, there were no computer capabilities that exist today, everything was really - and all tricks and panoramas, if fire is so fire. I like this much more than all the wonders of digital technology.
