NOTHING TO SEE HERE

“Nothing to see here, folks,”
So said the Sheriff, as though with jokes,
The “corpus delecti” lay on the grass,
With a contorted angle of arms, legs and ass.
“He must have sky-walked from that window up there.”
“Ten floors up, flying without care,”
“Until he sadly hit the earth,”
“Not very soft, this grassy turf!”

People crowded up, towards the police line.
The “Do not cross tape” fluttered in the breeze fine.
“Nothing to see here folks,” the Sheriff repeated.
“Only a dead man, whom life has defeated!”
The pathologist lifted the corpse head,
“I’m absolutely certain this corpse is dead!”
“Time of death was two thirty two.”
“That’s when his watch stopped, right on cue!”
The Sheriff said, “This is strictly for the boids.”
“Had he been ingesting Opioids?”
“I think not!” So the pathologist said.
“That is not why this man is dead!”
“He died because he hit the ground at speed.”
“Falling from a window, common sense, didn’t heed.”
“Perhaps,” said the Sheriff, “He’d eaten something bad!”
“It might have been an unhealthy dinner he had?”
The pathologist looked at the Sheriff with scorn.
“Were you this bright, the day you were born?”
This sarcastic comment didn’t phase the cop at all.
He was still gawping up at the window, from where the man did fall.
“Nothing to see here, folks,” was the Sheriff’s theme,
“Nothing to see folks,” or so it did seem.
But there was a clue they’d failed to see,
A “Goodbye Cruel World” letter fluttering pitifully!
