A chess piece through different eyes [3D models]

in #art7 years ago (edited)

Hey, guys!

Yesterday I was talking to my friend Steve (@veradux), when I just got thе spontaneous idea of teaching him to create simple 3D models. I just asked him to download Blender and since he is as crazy as me, he agreed.

Chess pieces

We played some online chess these days, so we both agreed to create a model of a "king". I found a tutorial, but it wasn't detailed so I had to explain some things to Steve.

Steve's first 3D model

It took him 2h30m to create this low poly model. I'm proud that he had enough patience! The hardest part was explaining the light and trying to adjust the scene, but after all we are both happy with the results. He learned many things and we had a lot of fun!

My 3D model

Creating this chess piece was not a challenge for me, yet it took me an hour, because I wanted to make the material similar to porcelain.

Happy steeming! ^-^

That's me! It was definitely a lovely experience. Most of all it showed me the importance of an artistic mind, which Marty has developed. It was something that I appreciate much more now. You have to know what works, out of all the color combinations, angles, shapes, and a lot more. And you have to know what you want to go for. Figuring those things out was the difficult part for me, and if you want to get started with creating any form of art, that is what you need to focus on. The rest, such as how to actually make the thing, is only a matter of knowledge of the software, which is nothing to worry about, even if the interface seems daunting at first. :D

Of course, for some people it will be harder than others, to grasp the theories of what looks good. But everyone has potential of some kind. I personally have steered towards a more logical direction, rather than artistic, as I am looking forward to becoming a software developer soon. Maybe one day, I will be sharing with you all, as my first post, your beloved Marty's adventures of learning how to code with me! ;)

Steve ^-^ I am really happy to see you here! Thank you for the detailed description of our journey. You have always been the practical one. Your logic is legendary! And I guess I have no choice but to try coding with you now...

Hey great job! I think you are probably really good at Blender if you can teach someone anything in under a day. I'm on my own Blender journey right now, I've started over a few times because I always found it really tricky.

I'll follow you because I plan to post a lot of Blender stuff to Steemit, I'm working on a beginner doughnut and coffee scene lol.

Hey! The best advice I can give you is to not give up, until you create a whole model. When you see a model finished, you feel like you can create everything and you feel motivated to keep learning. I can't wait to see your Blender posts. I guess you are talking about Andrew's doughnuts. Here I have posted another great youtube channel for tutorials, which you can check out:

Nice imagery...

Thank you!
