RE: Digital Painting - "Smoke Entering the Room"

in #art7 years ago

Oh man, I can relate so much to seeing a piece of art that I did a few years ago and seeing so many things I wish I had done better; on the bright side, I think it shows how far you have come since you did that particular piece. But, it is also why I hesitate to give my art to people, I feel like I will be embarrassed to see it a year from now lol

I think the change in the mouth is what stands out the most for me, seeing all the extra detail you added. I also like the overall color a little better in the updated piece. Maybe it isn't so much the "color" as the fact that the gradients in skin tone are much smoother from transition to transition. I'd say the extra work paid off you put into this one!

Thank you @artistchristian! You are so kind to let me know what you thought! I also understand what you mean about being embarrassed - lol - I honestly had to work up a bit of courage to share the old one, but I was really pleased with the evolvements and its really hard to appreciate where you're going if you don't know where you've been - so I said, the hell with it - I'm gonna post it! :D

Let me tell you, I worked on those lips A LOT trying to get them right, the angle and upward slant and the fact that I was working from a black and white source, made getting them right a bit of a challenge for me. I am still struggling with her hands too. While I feel they are better than the original, I still want to try and continue to work on getting them looking a bit more volumetric - hands are so hard! I think my favorite part is the hair - I usually struggle with hair, but I have been watching a lot of artists share their process on hair and I feel like I was able to put what I have learned into practice and it came out how I wanted!

Again, thank you so much for stopping by and following what I'm doing! Going to check out what you have been up to!

you know I didn't even notice the big difference in hands the first time but now that you mention it, it is night and day! Wow, huge difference and having them much more defined looks better for sure.
I use to hate hair and struggle with it so much, but I think I'm finally to the point where I have it mostly "figured out" and actually enjoy it.
The good thing about our embarrassment of previous artwork is that it is really only in our own mind since we see more mistakes than anyone else lol
