“A Hope For All” Mixed Media Painting By Jessyca Myers
About a year ago, I was honored to be asked to be a part of an elite art show hosted by the American Cancer Society. I was thrilled for this opportunity of course but also a little stressed about which “color” of cancer I was going to represent in my painting.
Mulitiple types of cancer have effected my friends and family in many ways. It was hard to choose which one was “most important” to feature. Breast cancer was my most obvious choice being that both my Mother and Mother in Law are survivors however I still wanted to think of something more.,.
I decided to create my own color, one that wasn’t just one color. I created an irredescent mix of pink, purple, blue, green and silver and gold. My goal was to create something that represented multiple subjects of this horrible disease.
I also decided to play around with different mediums and textures to add to the uniqueness of the color(s). After nights of modeling paste, gloss varnishes, painting, metallic finishes and glitter, I came up with my end product!
Now, you may notice that this ribbon is far from a perfected symbol. That is because I wanted this piece to represent the true battle and aftermath of Cancer. This ribbon is ripped, scarred, tattered and bruised. Quite frankly, it’s been through hell. But it is still standing and the wounds allow its colors to really shine!
Thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed my little inspiring story behind my “Hope For All” Painting!!
