FAVORITE OLD DRAWING? Maybe. Come See This Surreal Drawing. It wants to tell you something (original)

in #art6 years ago

Hey Steemit Family,

Today I had planned on spray painting, but when I woke up I realized it was too windy to paint. So I decided that I would stay in and work on a post for you awesome motherfuckers................but then I thought, "You know what? The wind is not going to dictate my day.

There have been too many cloudy or windy days lately and I feel that if I keep waiting for the right day then this commission is never going to be finished. So...................FUCK YOU WIND! I DO WHAT I WANT!

I Won't Leave You Hanging

Now before I leave out and start spray painting I wanted to share something . This is an ink drawing that I made about 16 years ago when I was working at a print shop. I was always inspired by all the ink splashes, drips, explosions and everything that ended up on random pieces of paper and cardboard.

This started as a blank piece of cardboard that I was developing printing plates or however they are actually referred to. After designing developing negatives, and burning that onto a plate you have to basically give the plate a chemical wash to make your design show up and then it is ready to be put on the press.

On this day I found myself particularly inspired by the way the cardboard looked so I took it home. The more I looked at the abstract design the more it spoke to me. It looked like some really old parchment.

At the time was feeling really bogged down by work and my parents and really just a whole lot of bullshit that was happening in that time period.

I just kept hearing a statement in my head while I was looking at this cardboard and bitching to myself about what was going on: "The hands that hold you up are the hands that hold you back.", and that seemed a really powerful statement to me at the time between the stuff I was dealing with at work and home.

So I got out my pens and started drawing what that meant to me. At this point I did not fucks with the color. Painting seemed like a lot of work. Around this time all my art was Pen, pencil, or charcoal, but the color on the cardboard from the chemical wash really added a great element I thought so I carried that over to the matte.

After 16 years of hiding in a closet this drawing has finally reappeared to make a statement to somebody......maybe you. What is it saying?

So now I am out to wrestle stencils and a canvas in the wind. I hope you are all having a wonderful day and continue to do so.

Sort:

This looks like a start of the Kafka's "Metamorphosis" :D

I could maybe kinda see that. When I look back on it now it reminds me a bit of a study you might find in a really old sketchbook.

An old Leonardo drawing? I like it too.

Yeah. Back in the day I mainly studied comics to learn drawing, but also some old masters.
