The Story of Freddie Mercury.
Source
Our story begins on the island of Zanzibar, which at that time was a British protectorate, near the coast of Tangananica, in Shangani Govt hospital, was born the first child of the marriage formed by Bomi and Jer Bulsara, a September 5, 1946 The real name of Freddie Mercury was Farrokh Bulsara. His father was a man of Persian descent and Indian nationality who was proud of his roots and tried to convey those ideas to his son.

At age 7, Jer Bulsara sent Farrokh to an English boarding school near Bombay, there, the dean would note that the boy had a great musical talent and wrote a letter to his parents to increase their monthly fee and that way his son he could take music lessons, besides the love of music, it was that boarding school where he gave up the name of Farrokh and called himself "Freddie" his friends and family called him that way to please him.

9 years later, after graduating, he left the boarding school and returned to Zanzibar and in 1963 the country became independent from Britain and started a revolution that took the lives of several people, fleeing political instability, the Bulsara settled in London. There Freddie would grow up listening to music from India by his father and he also listened to music of the time like the Beatles, it was a strange combination but he considered himself that way, he did not feel especially Hindu, but neither English, he was Freddie and nothing else.

Few know that Freddie Mercury was a graphic designer, in fact the Queen logo was designed by him using the zodiac signs of the band members, but we will get to that, for the moment I tell you that Freddie studied at the "Ealing Art School" He liked to listen to bands like The Who, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and started dating other students who shared his love for music, including an astrophysics student named Brian May and Roger Taylor, a biology student. They were members of a band called "Smile." Roger and Brian had been trying to convince Freddie to join them for months but he was very busy with other projects such as his studies and the creation of a clothing line.
Source
Freddie ended up joining another band called Ibex, and one night it turned out they played in a small place in Liverpool and nearby were his friends Roger and Brian that day the 3 of them shared the stage for the first time and then they knew... They wanted Freddie in smile yes or yes, it was hypnotic to see it. But Freddie continued with Ibex for a while, then joined Sour Milk Sea but after 3 concerts he left and finally accepted the invitation of Taylor and May to join Smile, although Freddie proposed a change of name "Queen", it would be the name that I would propose and the other members of the band, now with John Deacon in the bass accepted.
Freddie would also change his surname from that moment it would not be Bulsara, now it would be "Mercury"
His legend was about to begin.

Queen composed songs inspired by the musicians that they admired as the Beach Boys, T-Rex or David Bowie, but without realizing they were forming their own style, from the beginning they attracted a lot of attention, they were the 70s and the producers were looking for " The New Beatles ". By then Brian May had already introduced Freddie to Mary Austin (In fact May went out with her before) Mary and Freddie started a relationship and went to live together, the band managed to record a first single in the small Trident studios, and thanks a producer who saw them there got a contract with EMI, but their first album in 1973 did not receive much acceptance. They became the opening act for other bands and it was the extravagant presentations of Mercury, their costumes and their unbridled attitude emulating their beloved Liza Minelli in Cabaret that caught the public's attention and their second album "Queen II" had more repercussion than their predecessor, also Freddie increasingly dominated the stage but it was his third album, Sheer Heart Attack, which made them an international success on both sides of the ocean with his very successful "Killer Queen" and then his first US tour came Freddie's performances again flooded the tabloids and much was speculated about a new album but Queen was going to surprise everyone by taking a very different direction.
Freddie gave a great theatrical presentation in each of his concerts, began to dominate large audiences, loved the exaggerated gestures, turn on the audience and besides being a great vocalist, he became a great showman, because that showman proposed to introduce a song of operatic style on his next album even though he did not really know much about opera.
That song was Bohemian Rhapsody, a very risky bet, lasts 6 minutes, and at first it was hard to understand and for that reason there has been much speculation about the meaning of the song, to start a rhapsody is a musical piece characteristic of romanticism that contains several themes united freely without any relation and Bohemia has several meanings, on the one hand it is one of the historical regions that make up the Czech Republic, but it is also a cultural movement that emerged in the 19th century from Henri Murger pen.
A bohemian person is one who departs from social conventions and who puts art and culture above material things, but now let's go to the most difficult part, the meaning of the Bohemian Rhapsody lyrics, much has been written about this work that is divided into 6 parts, (and no refrain), those parts are: introduction to capela, ballad, guitar solo, operatic segment, rock and a coda that retakes the tempo and tonality of the introductory part. Some say it is the story of a young man who sells his soul to the devil, and is inspired by the work of Goethe, that angels and demons fight for his soul but for many that version is not true and I will explain why:
First because in life Freddie reserved the meaning of the song for himself, that means it was something very personal, but not as complex as many alleged analysts say, in reality the version of a boy who sells his soul emerged years later. When a disc was released in Iran compiling Queen's hits and a Persian pamphlet was included that contained the translations of all the songs on the album and came a part where it clarified that Bohemian Rhapsody was the story of a man who killed someone and Like Faust, he sold his soul to the devil, but the night before his execution he calls God in Arabic (Bismillah) and he in turn sends his angels for the soul that the devil had.

But Brian May himself has denied that theory.
Freddie never confirmed it and it was Jim Hutton, his last partner, who revealed that Freddie had confessed that song was his way out of the closet, that the man who died was his heterosexual part.
Tom Rice who worked with Freddie on his second solo album confirms the version that was his exit from the closet, as he claims that with Bohemian Rhapsody Freddie told him that he was admitting and leaving behind his heterosexual part and that he would try to live with the New Freddie . Whatever the meaning, the song was a success, although at first the radio stations did not want to play such a long song, it was the insistent calls of the audience that succeeded. And coincidentally or not, reaffirming that the song was his exit from the closet, Freddie would end his relationship with Mary Austin when she discovered that he cheated on her with an executive from Elektra Records.

Although he loved her all his life, and she remained as his friend until the end of Mercury's life but we will get there.
After breaking up with Mary (to whom he dedicated "Love of my life") Freddie cut his long hair and was presented with short hair and mustache, that look was called "Castro Clone" and was very popular among the gay community, Many of Freddie's sexuality was already an open secret, but nobody cared, Freddie went beyond sexuality, but in 1984 during the "I Want to Break Free" video, Queen members appeared dressed as women, Many supposed followers, especially in the United States, turned their backs and repudiated Freddie.
Source
But in England things were somewhat different, while on the one hand sensationalist media flooded their pages with the rumors of their sexuality and alleged love affairs, the popularity of Queen as a band was relatively intact.
In 1985, Bob Geldof invited them and convinced them to appear along with 65 other artists to the legendary "Live Aid", but Freddie's throat was so badly damaged that they had to cancel 5 concerts, in fact he appeared in the Live Aid against the recommendations of your doctor. At that time Queen was not what it is now, it was a relatively current band and that day Freddie went on stage doing his typical greeting throwing punches in the air and smiling at the audience that was waiting as if they knew they were about to see something historic.
Freddie played a couple of notes of Bohemian Rhapsody and immediately after began to sing that song, the 72,000 attendees were hypnotized, they did not know but were about to see what for many is the best live performance of a band in history. Freddie in just over 20 minutes had taken over the stage and Queen stood out over the other bands, regardless of the name, they stole the show and they were not Rock stars, they were living legends.

But two years later the tragedy hit Freddie's life.
And it is that he who constantly boasted of being a highly sexual person and that his tremendous parties were known, received a terrible terrible news, his doctor told him in the spring of 1987 that he had HIV, for a long time he hid it, but the press began to speculate and it began to be rumored in the magazines of shows that he was sick but he denied it all the time, it was until two years later, in 1989, that he confessed the truth to his family and his innermost circle. Freddie knew that his time was over and his physical appearance reflected it, when he revealed it to his friends they already suspected the terrible truth, but he did not want anyone's compassion. "I will live less than some, but I have a life to live and that is what I will do," he told them.
In "These are the Days of Our Lives" of the Album "Innuendo ", you can appreciate their deteriorated physical condition, their excessive makeup was not enough to hide the ravages of their physical condition.

Every day was weaker, and in fact that was his last video, knowing that the end was coming, he asked to record first the vocal part of a song called "Mother Love" but he did not make it and it was May himself, the guitarist of Queen the one who sang the last verse since it was impossible for Freddie to do it.
Source
On November 22, 1991, Freddie told his partner, Jim Hutton, that he was fed up with secrets and with the help of Jim Beach, manager of Queen, announced through a press release that he had AIDS.
Two days later he died.

As curious data Freddie Mercury, Queen and other greats such as Guns and Roses, Bob Marley, The Jackson Five, Chuck Berry, Depeche Mode, Jimi Hendrix, Kiss, The Doors, The Who and Janis Joplin never won a Grammy, but artists like Justin Bieber, and Taylor Swift, yes.
Although the Grammys that at first were considered the Oscars of music, over time they stopped honoring the arts and creations and focused on the commercial field, where they applaud those who sell have talent or not.
But let's go back to Freddie.
But well, that's how Freddie Mercury died, and to this day Mary Austin, who received half of all her assets, including the royalties of her music, keeps the secret of where she put the ashes of the protagonist of our story today. (many hate her for it) He left, but death could not touch him, he was bigger than her and today he continues more alive than ever.
His name is already synonymous with legend, he is the king of the stage, "The Queen of Rock", he is and will be an immortal being
He is Freddie Mercury.
