What I have been doing for the past two weeks?! I drew a lot off butts!

For the past two weeks I have been participating in a 9-3pm drawing class daily, as my third year Illustration elective. Anyhow we worked alot with charcoal for the first week and well I didn't enjoy using that medium at all.

This week, the final week, I was able to use whatever media I wanted. For the most part I preferred ink and acryclic....

Please keep in mind that this is a drawing course and in no way were these images finished, but simply a means of visualising forms and developing mark making techniques.

We would start with everyday, basically the class would draw the model without looking back at our paper. We had about 2 minutes to draw each figure and define what shapes we could in a continuous line. This activity was simply fun as there was the freedom in not having to worry about perfection but just drawing what you could see.

I struggled to use charcoal especially when we came to exploring tone and using it to visualise what I saw. I found willow charcoal particularly difficult to manipulate and build up tone as it is easily brushed away. When given an extended amount of time I was able to somewhat accurately convey a solid form and body.

I Felt quite proud off my recycled paper artwork, this was painted over an earlier charcoal drawing that I was not fond off. Acrylic was to be better-suited to my skill set, when it was on the page it wouldn't brush away or smudge unless I wanted it too. I built up tone slowly, using a variation of big and small brushes. Id push the tone back by wiping off excess/wet paint almost immediately and kept building up using this method. I aimed at being expressive over becoming completely accurate with my use of tone. Look at that booty!

This was a technical drawing which was divided with lines. The model wore stripes, likes Wally, and the task was to draw her accurately. I wanted the torso to be the focal point and despite adding highlights to it I overworked the crotch , which in turn distracted from the intended focal point.

And here are a whole other drawings that i did, not all but a few.

I want to say "yay, butts!" But from some of the stories you've told me, I'm guessing many of them you wish you could un-see.

What is your favorite bear breed? Is that the way to word that question?

I love american black bears. Non-aggressive, berry eating, curious little shits... I can relate to that.

So long as I don't make eye contact with the models it's fine...... Drawing butts and backs are definitely less confrontational than risking eye contact.

Hi @alannapendragon i like your work so much, its great

Do the models get bored, or do you just draw them without their ipad?

They are professional life models that the university hires, sometimes they just stay in the same pose for an hour without a break. Its harder than it sounds, and they are not on their phones or anything while they are posing.

That's why so many are facing away from you. They're hiding gameboys.

Nice job ever...
Hope be like you someday :)
