Golden age / L'âge d'or - Bronze sculpture (FR/EN)

C'est le second crâne que j'ai sculpté.le premier était fait avec des cuilleres et des louches.Voici sa photo:

This is the second skull I sculpted. The first was made with spoons and ladles. Here's the picture:

Ces deux pièces datent de 2010. Seulement 4 mois séparent ces deux photos et les deux sculptures sont très différentes. En fait le crâne avec les cuillères avait été jugé "artisanal" par une galerie importante de Nice, celle qui a soutenu les sculpteurs de l'Ecole de Nice (Arman, Cesar, Ben etc...) . Ce jugement équivaut à du mépris dans le monde de l'art contemporain et m'avait piqué au vif et "l'âge d'or" est le résultat de cette déception. Du coup c'est avec cette sculpture que j'ai décidé de cesser de travailler avec des fourchettes et cuillères et que j'ai commencé à explorer les possibilités de l'ornementation. Un exemple parlant des leçons que l'on peut tirer de ses échecs.

Pourquoi l'âge d'or? Il existe une relation entre l'ornementation en bronze doré et le titre de cette oeuvre. En effet le bronze doré du XVIIIème siècle et du début du XIXème peut être considéré comme une période d'age d'or dans l'histoire des arts décoratifs, une sorte d'aboutissement d'un art presque vieux comme le monde. Depuis cette époque le travail du bronze est devenu anecdotique et réservé pratiquement à certains types de sculptures et pas des plus contemporaines. Le bronze est un matériau du passé. Il est désormais remplacé par l'acier inoxydable , l'acier et les matières plastiques.

These two pieces date from 2010. Only 4 months separate these two photos and the two sculptures are very different. In fact the skull with the spoons had been judged " handworked" by an important gallery of Nice, which supported in the 70th the sculptors of the School of Nice (Arman, Cesar, Ben etc ...). And this word is an offense in contemporary world.This judgment had me piqued and "the golden age" is the result of this disappointment. So it is with this sculpture that I decided to stop working with forks and spoons and I began to explore the possibilities of ornamentation. An example of the lessons that can be learned from his failure.

Why the golden age? There is a link between gilt bronze ornamentation and the title of this work. Indeed the gilded bronze of the eighteenth century and the beginning of the nineteenth century can be considered as a period of golden age in the history of decorative arts, a kind of outcome of an art almost as old as the world. Since then, the work of bronze has become anecdotal and practically reserved for certain types of sculptures and not the most contemporary ones. Bronze is a material of the past. It is now replaced by stainless steel, steel and plastics.
