Arlington National Cemetery, Well Done, Jim

Well done, Jim. Be thou at peace.
Arlington National Cemetery is a place of honor and one of the final resting places for America’s heroes. Every year a few million people will visit to honor or chronicle our nation’s history.

During my last visit to the cemetery I found a head stone with these words “WELL DONE” I took my photograph and became interested in what Jim did, so well.

LTC James M. Morris was a true Army Brat, after watching his father lead a Tank Company, Jim was inspired to attend West Point. Jim saw three separate wars; in WWII he was assigned to the occupation of Japan in the 188th Parachute Regiment of the 11th Airborne Division. After returning home he purchased his own airplane a Taylorcraft and a Chevy convertible. A year later Jim met and married and promptly sold his airplane, for a washing machine... (true love, no?). In Vietnam Jim flew surveillance flights over the Saigon River as well as helicopter combat operations (receiving three Gallantry Crosses from the Vietnamese Army). Jim retired from the military in 1973, finished his MBA and then taught classes at a local university. Later he purchased a new airplane and started a flight instructor school teaching many young people how to fly, which he did until he retired. WELL DONE, JIM.

James Monroe Morris died in Columbus GA at the age of 85 and was buried at Arlington National Cemetery: Section 38 Site 10.
