La Roche
Built on a slope of Mount Shefford, the residence is the bridge between an aerial view on one side and the other, a rising topography, rugged, populated with rock and maples.
The initial idea for this project was to anchor in the mountains, to nestle in the terrain with a high altitude until it becomes one with the residence. Thus, since access to the site below, we see a black volume that seems to emerge from the slope and detach from the surrounding vegetation. Its dark, truncated shape echoes the rocky projections that inhabit the site. The living areas, located upstairs, offer the occupant an intimate relationship to the site, a level access to a wild and unaltered by a large terrace profiled in the topography. Forward, the house rises above the void and allows an atmospheric point of view towards the treetops.
A utility space sheltered by the projection of the upper floor gives access to the residence. From then on, a staircase set with wood leads us to the main floor, where the spaces are articulated freely under a flat, floating roof, exhibiting a laminated wood structure. An inner course crosses each room along the outer walls. The walls, which open at the end of each axis, offer a view of the maple grove, bringing the feeling of being both protected under the wooden roof and immersed in the surrounding nature.
The kitchen, dressed in knotty pine, is enshrined in two parallel white blocks that form an indirect link with the adjoining dining room. This one opens completely on the ascending slope and dialogues with the rock located nearby, integrated to the terrace. In continuity with the master bedroom, the ambulatory circuit continues on the periphery of the space occupied by the bathroom, at the heart of which a bath-shower block faces a huge bay window, plunging the user into intimacy with the room. forest. Nested between this space and the living room, the triangular-shaped mosquito net opens onto a leafy cover, a nest perched in the hollow of the landscape. In the image of the whole, a refuge both anchored and aerial.
