A Pavillon Between Trees

in #architecture7 years ago

The Australians of Branch Studio Architects have recently designed a pavilion between the trees in extension of an existing house. Entry to the pavilion is ensured by the extension of a central corridor exiting the main house.

This central promenade divides the areas of the suite into two distinct spaces before detaching into two traffic lanes. As the spaces unfold, the ground level gradually increases by a series of platforms that divide the spaces along the entire length of the building. Large glass doors open to include the narrow inner courtyard in the bathroom space, giving it direct connection to the garden. A half-height wall and a steel grille protect the privacy of the property without interrupting the views of the treetops and the sky. A projecting window offers a raised sitting area on the landscape. The room, where the building reaches the maximum height above the ground, is the room where previously individual areas gather in one space. The palette of materials for the exterior combines wood, steel and glass, all deliberately natural and raw in response to the rural context and so that they skate over time. The building will thus continue to fit into its landscape. Inside, the materials are of a similar aesthetic.
