Machu Picchu (Quechua language which means "Old Mountain" is often also called "The lost Inca City") is a pre-Columbian Inca ruin site located in a mountainous region at an altitude of about 2,350 m above sea level. Machu Picchu is above the Urubamba valley in Peru, about 70 km northwest of Cusco.

It is a symbol of the most famous Inka Kingdom. Built around the year 1450, but abandoned a hundred years later, when the Spaniards succeeded in conquering the Kingdom of Inka. This site was forgotten by the international community, but not by the local community.

Machu Picchu is built in ancient Incan style with polished stone walls. The main building is Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, and the Three Window Rooms. These places are called the Sacred District of Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is also one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Inca nation has a rapid development in the field of art, especially the art of waking. As in the manufacture of textiles and ceramics, the construction of defensive forts, and wide roads. The progress of this field of art can not be separated from the government's ability to regulate society.

The awesome part of Machu Picchu is in the construction of its gigantic stone wall. Unlike the Borobudur is composed of the majority of stone box-shaped and neatly arranged, Machu Picchu walls made of granite stone weighing 50 tons of different shapes and sizes.

In fact, there is no cavity at all between one stone and another. Architectists suspect, the Incas use the technique of dry stone to make a giant wall. This technique does not use any material to seal the stone. Stones are just arranged irregularly like a puzzle, but neat because the stones are like cut to fit each other. The way Inca cut the stones remains a mystery to this day. In fact, the stones also look polished because of the smooth surface. The stones from the walls of the Incas are so well constructed that no piece of paper can be inserted between the rocks.

The reason, in the days of modern technology such as this now it takes hours to cut a granite stone. It must also wear special cutting tools. Because of the sophisticated buildings and stone walls of Machu Picchu, the people who built Machu Picchu were considered the best masons in the world.

Coricancha The Temple of the Sun is the most important temple for the Inca empire. the walls and floors of the temple are lined with solid gold. A severe earthquake made the church built on the Inca shrine severely damaged, but the Inca-built stone walls built by massive interconnected stones still stood as a result of the good technique of Inca masons.
