Cebu's Castle Church: Simala Shrine
Simala Shrine Church is a religious structure and establishment located in Sibonga Town, Southern Cebu.
The road leading in narrows as you approach the church so be ready to park and hike in.
These people here are Pilgrimage, a religious journey. Pilgrimages or visiting religious places is one of the most important aspects that most Filipino Catholics have. This aspect keeps their faith alive and keeps them going despite all the challenges in life.
The sculptures and architecture inside Simala Shrine Church are also the most interesting things you can find and enjoy with, aside from praying and showing devotion (I forgot to take a photo inside. lol)

How To Get There
From Cebu City, we ride a V-hire (Vehicle for Hire) located at Jonquera St (locally known as Kamagayan) fare is Php100 and it going right straight to the the place.
Some Tips
- I advise to bring your own protective shields from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays, such as umbrellas, hats, sunglasses, shades, sunblock, etc. You can protect yourself from any danger or not waste time praying from getting heat stroke or skin cancer!
- Hiring a taxi (around Php1000 to Php2000, roundtrip) going to Simala from Cebu is a bit expensive.
- No eating inside the shrine but you can bring your own water and food where you can eat at the cottages near the compound.
- If you would like to relax and keep away from the crowd/devotees on your visit, avoid Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
- Wear proper attire for church goer. If you're going up to the altar, you need to leave your shoes/slippers at the entrance; footwear is not allowed inside. Make sure to wear proper attire when going there, shorts and/or sleeveless shirt/blouse are also not allowed.
