Dark title, right?
This is my entry for @photocontests #architecturalphotography contest. It is a piece of abstract artwork in the Mitte area of Berlin. As the name suggests, it's a monument to the victims of the holocaust. Rows of plain concrete slabs of varying sizes, intended to represent the tombs that the Murdered Jews of Europe never had the dignity of receiving.
One thing that I really like about Berlin is that the city does not attempt to brush the atrocities of its past under the rug. It accepts them as part of its history and celebrates the fact that the city is has turned around to now become possibly the most open and welcoming in all of Europe. The monument extends several levels below the ground, however it costs €15 to enter. For me and my tight travel budget, the ground level was enough to see.
I really love the haunting effect that I achieved by aiming the camera down one of the corridors between the "tombs", especially the interplay of light and shadow - which I augmented using Adobe Camera Raw.
