The Cathedral of Maracay city; a place to remember.
Hi, everyone! This is my entry for the contest that @photocircle & @archisteem organized. This is a good way to promote the create good content for the comunity.
I want to present you the Cathedral of Maracay, its completely name “Cathedral of San José of Maracay”.
It’s a religious building, located at the capital of the Aragua state, in Venezuela, the city of Maracay. This catedral has something special for us, the Maracayeros, because the catedral is not located at the front of the Bolívar Square like the others in Venezuela, is located in front of the “Girardot Square” to do honor to a local hero.
It was made at the end of the XVII century, althougt it has some changes in its architecture, it doesn’t made it less incredible, right? This catedral is inspired in the romans religious buildings.
Even if you’re not a very religious person, you can always go to the Girardot square and take a whole look of the cathedral. I remember growing up watching my city get bigger and better, and the cathedral get more beautiful every time I passed by. I believe it is one interesting place to visit if you come to Maracay one day.
There are two sad things about this cathedral:
It’s not open everyday, it has some certain days and hours to be open at the public, but I understand that because the cathedral has been robbed a few times ago.
It doesn’t receive enough credit as it should be, the building, the painting, the little details… It’s getting old and no one seems to care about it. Honestly no one seems to care so much about iconic buildings nowadays.
This is a place to remember for everyone at Maracay city. If you go to the center of the city you will always know where to go if you see it, because is near everything. It’s sort of a guide for the people.
