Apple Users: You are at risk, get this patch now!

If I would be a Hacker, I could have taken control of your iPhone or Macbook, with just posting the above image.

The good news is, I am not a hacker and have good intentions. The bad news is: If you have an iPhone or Macbook you might be at risk, simply by looking at an image.

As the Talos/Cisco team reports, a new vulnerability has been discovered that might potentially be disastrous for the Apple User community.

An attacker can take over control of your iPhone or Mac just by sending you a picture.

Apparently the way MacOS and iOS handles images, can be exploited by hiding malicious code in TIFF and BMP files - This is really bad news, as nothing is being shared over the web, email and messengers easier than images.

Cisco Talos senior security researcher Tyler Bohan described the issue as 

“an extremely critical bug, comparable to the Android Stagefright as far as exposure goes. (...) The receiver of an MMS cannot prevent exploitation and MMS is a store and deliver mechanism, so I can send the exploit today and you will receive it whenever your phone is online”

It is estimated that it will take some two weeks from the publishing of the vulnerability to the appearance of working exploits. It is strongly suggested that you apply all security patches from Apple before it is too late
