Angry App Developers Form Union Advocating for Fair Policies, Revenue.
Ahead of Apple’s 2018 Worldwide Developers Conference event, app developers have formed a union calling for fairer App Store policies.
The group, aptly named “The Developers Union,” published a letter on Friday asking Apple to allow for free trials on the iOS and Mac App Store, a “more reasonable” revenue cut, and other “community-driven, developer-friendly changes.”
“We believe that people who create great software should be able to make a living doing it,” the letter reads. “So we created The Developers Union to advocate for sustainability in the App Store.”
The group’s first goal is to advocate for free trial periods for all App Store apps. The Developers Union asks that Apple implements such a policy by July 10 — the tenth anniversary of the App Store.
