The apostle Paul and Jesus: As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome. Acts 23:11
According to the account of the Book of Acts, the apostle Paul was one of the greatest preachers of the Christian faith and, due to the weight of his epistles, one of the greatest fathers of the Church.
And the Book of Acts highlights a special moment in Paul's life, the new name that Saul adopted after his baptism and spiritual rebirth, and that moment was when he was captured in Jerusalem after his third missionary journey to finally be tried in Rome.
And this story of the New Testament begins in a special way. Paul upon his arrival in Caesarea, after his departure from Ephesus, met a prophet named Agabus who prophesied to him that he would suffer captivity in Jerusalem. But Paul was a person filled with the Holy Spirit, and so without being carried away by fear, he responded: "I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus" Acts 21:13. With this Paul made it clear that he accepted the destiny that the eternal providence had prepared for him, but also understanding a very important spiritual principle, when a prophecy is true everything that is done against it only reinforces it.
As soon as he arrived in the holy city of Jerusalem, Paul had to face the hostility of the Christians coming from the Judaism who considered themselves faithful followers of the law of Moses. Paul, with his doctrine of justification by faith, allowed pagans to enter into the Christian faith without complying with the law of Moses.
And so it was that after a purification rite that Paul accepted in order not to enter into conflict with the Judaizing Christians, he was taken captive to a fortress due to a riot that had occurred in the temple of Jerusalem. It was at that moment that Paul's determination to bear witness to the faith had to become stronger than ever; the life of this preacher was hanging by a thread. And the Book of Acts relates that the fortress was the place where Paul received the last vision of Jesus who communicated his destiny to him with these words: "Take courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome" Acts 23:11. The Book of Acts does not relate anything about Paul's death but it does relate that after being taken to Rome to be judged by the emperor, he was able to preach everything concerning Jesus with complete freedom.
