Today's pick in the Daily Anime Pick-Series where I pick one anime each day that I think is worth watching is Shokugeki no Souma!

This anime is about food. I know that probably doesn't sound too exciting for most people but trust me: this show is packaged with action and delivers a splendid presentation of foods and cooking. It is more like a battle shounen but instead of weapons you fight with cooking skills.

The story follows Souma Yukihira, a talented boy who will enter the most famous and prestige cooking school: Tootsuki Culinary Academy. He is the son of Jouichirou Yukihira who was once also a student at Tootsuki and now is known as a first class chef all over the world. He is the one who urged Souma to enter this elite cooking school. With a dad like this Souma has learned a great range of cooking abilities which, in addition to his talent, make him a though opponent for the upcoming battles. Those battles are called Shokugeki and involve a high-stake cooking face off between two Tootsuki students. At the opening ceremony the overly confident Souma leaves quite the impression as he declares his intention to stand at the top of Tootsuki.

The cooking scenes don't only look delicious they are also very informative and exciting to watch. Those scenes combined with the great use of suspense create a unique shounen-battle-anime-feeling but in the context of cooking.

Shokugeki no Souma is certainly one of a kind that belongs in your list of watched animes.

Description

Ever since he was a child, fifteen-year-old Souma Yukihira has helped his father by working as the sous chef in the restaurant his father runs and owns. Throughout the years, Souma developed a passion for entertaining his customers with his creative, skilled, and daring culinary creations. His dream is to someday own his family's restaurant as its head chef.

Yet when his father suddenly decides to close the restaurant to test his cooking abilities in restaurants around the world, he sends Souma to Tootsuki Culinary Academy, an elite cooking school where only 10 percent of the students graduate. The institution is famous for its "Shokugeki" or "food wars," where students face off in intense, high-stakes cooking showdowns.

As Souma and his new schoolmates struggle to survive the extreme lifestyle of Tootsuki, more and greater challenges await him, putting his years of learning under his father to the test.
