What are we looking at? Darling in the Franxx [Spoiler Alert]
This post is dedicated to all Darling in the Franxx fans out there! Although being honest, Darling isn't even close to being my favorite anime. Still, as an Evangelion lover I feel obliged to watch it, and it's really entertaining.
First of all, Darling isn't half bad, as we all know, the artwork is excellent, the music is pretty good, and if you're able to overlook the excessive fanservice and the insults to Hideaki Ano, the show is pretty good.
Now, this post isn't going to be an evaluation of the anime. I won't rate Darling from the beginning, this I'll do further on, probably after the end of the first season. This is going to be about chapter 20, the one we all saw yesterday, and it's plot twist. If you haven't seen this chapter and you hate being spoiled, please don't read any further and come back after you've seen it!
Now, this scene, this particular picture rings a bell, we all know we've seen this somewhere else, but that's something I'll leave for another post =)
From the beginning of this show, it seemed like they were following Evangelion's plot from top to bottom.
They had a bunch of kids, ruled by Gendo Papa, riding giant robots called Evas Franxx, in order to fight giant polymorph monsters called Angels Klaxosaurs. They've got a caretaker called Misato Nana, looking out for them and conducting their operations. They've got children made of the same genetic material as Angels Klaxosaurs, such like Rei Zero Two (even though I know her personality is more focused towards Asuka), and recently we've found that the Evas Franxx are also made of something similar.
They even have a high council of elders that are secretly plotting their own agenda, called Seele Ape, and so far they've hinted that their intentions are to reach their own version of the human instrumentality project. So far we know what this show is going to be about, since it's actually pretty good, we've all sat back and enjoyed the romantic plotlines, the little secrets, and the exceedingly great animation.
That was, of course, before chapter 20.
Here comes the Trigger mix to the plot.
As it turns out, Satsuki The spiral king the Klaxosaur princess wasn't really bad, she was just trying to protect the Earth from an alien invasion, embodied by the Anti spirals Life fibers VIRM. Our heroes have been manipulated to fight against the good guys, whilst the bad guys were plotting the Earth's demise.
Trigger pulled out a plot twist that may as well be their trademark. I actually enjoyed seeing it, even though it's a story I've seen a couple of times it's still a story that drives me with excitement. Furthermore, I can't shake the idea that they haven't abandoned the human instrumentality project and this may still be their final plot. I'd love to see this mix of Ano and Trigger's plot come true.
What are your thoughts about this? If you have a remark, a different opinion or if you'd simply like to say hello please do so in the comments =) .
It should be based on Mechanics. I am very confused with the genre. They are influenced by Evan but it was a inferior version. I want to see Trigger focus on their nature.
It isn't as good as Evangelion, but it's a mecha, nonetheless. Keep in mind that Evangelion is a deconstruction of its genre and an attempt to deconstruct all anime as we conceived it. Darling in the Franxx is painting inside of the line, and it's good, but even if it's based on Evangelion, it's kind of hard to compare them.
Speaking of the nature of the Franxx, that's something they grasped in the last chapter, but yeah, I would also like to see more deeply into that =) .
I mean they have macha but sadly they do not have much intensive actions on to it. So I wonder why they even put mechanics into it if they gonna focus strongly on the dramatic emotions. Plus trigger made masterpiece anime prior to actions and add the story along. They seems to make a new shot but seems to be rush or undone, even though they have the great potential to make better.
