RE: Sad Update About Baby Chipmunks

in #animals7 years ago

Unfortunately I haven't seen a single shop/pharmacy in Sri Lanka which sells puppy milk products. There are dog foods available in our country but no puppy milk formulas. I know that cow's milk can be toxic. But that is the only solution to feed him. But wait, can we feed chipmunks with goat's milk? Please reply asap.

Oh man, sorry to hear that! Hmmm, I'm not sure about goat's milk but I doubt it's the optimal choice (though I would imagine it might be better than cows', but that's just speculation). Sounds like you are doing the best you can in a really sub-optimal situation. You did mention adding chopped fruit; even if that doesn't provide the best nutrition, it could help neutralize some of the "bad" qualities in the milk.

Sorry, I wasn't too helpful. I gotta commend you for all you are doing even under these poor conditions! As for the ones that didn't make it, at least take solace in the fact that you did all you could to give them a chance (a chance they would not have had on their own).

Thank you @herpetologyguy

Maybe try this recipe; I can't personally vouch for it, but it is from a board concerning the care of young mammals and rodents.

1 cup goats milk
1/3 cup heavy cream
1/3 cup dannon all natural vanilla yogurt

Thank you for the recipe. Gotta rush to the super market which is a 45 minutes ride.

Hey @herpetologyguy I thought I should update you about the chipmunk. Since I hve introduced banana the chipmunk refused to drink milk and just ate chopped bananas. Still I used milk in small amounts. I even introduced her some yougurt and she fell in love with it. I don't know if it is good to introduce food at this age but her health is now improving. So, I'm just gonna continue giving her yougurt and bananas. Do you think cheese would be good to her?
