The Sad Facts About Animal Cruelty Across The World
Animal cruelty is something that needs discussion constantly. Everyday animals are mistreated across America and the globe and some of the statistics and facts are frightening.
I wanted to share with you some of them and hopefully create a bit more of a discussion regarding this. I want to bring this issue to light on the Steemit platform, as I think it is our social responsibility to talk about these things by any means possible.
1. Over 115 Million animals are killed as a result of lab experiments annually. 115 MILLION! Chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics are all responsible for this kind of mass murder.
2. Exotic pet trade is a billion dollar industry. Unfortunately, these exotic pets cannot handle being removed from their natural environments and their life span dramatically reduces.
3. 5% of animal abuse cases involve dogs. "Man's Best Friend".
4. Many states don't consider live stock in their cruelty laws. Resulting in some of the harshest conditions and animals being subjected to a vast array of abuse.
5. Each year, approximately 2.7 million animals are euthanized (1.2 million dogs and 1.4 million cats).
6. If you had to make a 40-inch fur coat. This is how many animals it would require. 30 and 200 chinchilla, 60 mink, 50 sables, 50 muskrats, 45 opossums, 40 raccoons, 35 rabbits, 20 foxes, 20 otters, 18 lynx, 16 coyotes, 15 beavers and lastly 8 seals.
7. The number one producer of fur in the world is China. Often they are slammed against concrete floors to stun them, they are skinned alive and often it takes more than 20 minutes for the animal to die.
8. Sheep used for wool, live outdoors. They are shorn at the end of the winter when their coat is full. But this is before they would naturally shed. Australia loses 1 million sheep per year due to exposure after sheering.
All of these are shocking facts about animals cruelty and how we treat them within our lives. Animals are not only our companions but they do help us survive on this planet and they should be treated with respect in any process that evolves their sacrifice for us.
Would love to hear some thoughts on this topic.
