The Pace of Nature
Adopt the pace of Nature: Her secret is patience.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
✨
Having a pint at a pub on Rose Street in Edinburgh, I spotted this beautiful being. And I was hooked. Awaiting her two-legged companion, I imagined her a queen, an emissary from another world who gifted us with her presence: regal, observant, curious, and patient. Was she judging the passersby, weighing their worth by the colour of their skin or the jingle of coin in their pockets? I think not. Her assessments would be far more elemental, probably having to do with scent.
What struck me most about her was her patience. She didn't stamp her paw, demand attention, whine, complain, rant, or seemingly despair over her friend's return. Assured her companion would return, she occupied herself by observing. Maybe she was meditating. Perhaps she contemplated the Universe or simply wondered what was for dinner. It didn't matter. What mattered was the peace she exuded. Her patience gave me patience. Her peace, contagious.
May her patience, be your patience.
May her peace, be your peace.
Perhaps that has been the secret all along.
Spread the Light.
