En Venezuela estos animales son muy comunes, aunque su tenencia y transporte no son permitidos. Los patios de casas e incluso apartamentos, en cualquier parte de la geografía tenían estos compañeros presentes.
Con su andar lento pero seguro, hacían las delicias de los niños quienes siempre montaban a los especímenes más grandes o querían agarrar entre sus dedos a los pequeños animalitos, con el consabido grito de "cuidado te muerde, que esos bichos no sueltan!!!"
Creo que es más leyenda urbana que conocimiento certero, pero igual hay que tenerles cuidado.
