I feel for you. I never understand this kind of behaviour. We have that here too (Nicaragua). People see a snake it is automatically venomous and dangerous. Out come 10 guys with machetes to dispatch the poor helpless snake. It makes me sick. My Swedish neighbour and I have started a small program to get people to come to us when they find a snake. We are trying to educate them. But it is an uphill battle. We are actually paying the kids to come to us first...
That's awesome though! And every single snake you save is a success! The good news is that at least it sounds like what you are dealing with is fear and ignorance...perhaps it can be effectively combated with education. Unfortunately, incidents like this, carried out with simple hate, are the real threat to these animals because I don't know of any easy way to fight that kind of hatred.
Hatred is a strong emotion and sometimes there is no cure for it as it dwells deep in the hearts of some people...
