Frill Necked Lizards what you need to know

Frill Neck Lizard - Scientific name: Chlamydosaurus kingii

A bizare reptile that are native to Australia, thats probably all you know about this animal.

The Species has a unique frill that can be relaxed and held tightly to the animals body, or as a defensive mechanism flared up to encircle the lizards face to make the animal look bigger than it really is.
This display is followed by the mouth opening and a hissing noise.

The animal isnt poisonous or venomous, but can give any one who attempts to handle them a nasty bite. Small teeth line the jaw of the reptile, but they arnt big enough to do any serious damage to a human. Just sharp enough to cut up their prey.

The frill neck will consume a diet of bugs, moths, catepillars and other grubs, but in captivity will eat blue berries and several other fruit or veggies.

This lizard species is closely related to the Bearded Dragon, another australian species that uses its mouth and puffing of the neck region as its defense against predators.

The lizard lives in warmer dryer habitats of Queensland, and the Northern Territory, warming up early in the morning or in the afternoon on rocks and climbing trees.

The species is partial to crossing roads, and can be easily run over when they are cold and trying to sun them selves on the roads.
