A little about the Owls
Hi Steemians, it's me, Pedro.
The word Owl comes from the vulgar Latin variant "Bufos" for more information of its meaning can see the following page: http://etimologias.dechile.net/?bu.ho
The Owls are considered wise only by their appearance, but they are not very intelligent. There are birds more intelligent than they, they have a normal intelligence to be a bird. Their huge eyes are adapted to see at night, they are nocturnal so it is difficult to see in broad daylight.
There are more than 200 species of owl distributed throughout the planet except Antarctica, owls feed on living things can eat fish, mice, lizards and some even eat baby owls can become cannibals.
In Spanish we differentiate the Owls (bubo bubo) from the Owls( Tyto alba ) but in English they are the same "Owls", the ears of the owls are very good catching the sound with greater facility, to a great distance which they use to be very good hunters. They are such good hunters that their feathers are designed to make no noise they achieve breaking the turbulence in small streams besides having sharp claws to catch the prey.
In ancient Greece a little Owl was the inseparable companion of Athena, the goddess of wisdom or war. Now seeing an owl is associated with superstition death and there are still people who kill him for that rumor. Another of the qualities of the Owl is the camouflage can change the appearance in seconds, some species can mimic with the trees another of its qualities esque can rotate its head 370º thanks to the 14 vertebrae of its neck.
Curiosities:
- There are owl all sizes from the smallest in the world, the pygmy that measures only about 4 inches tall to the actual owl, about 28 inches tall.
- Owls only attack the man when they feel threatened. Especially when they have eggs or young chicks to protect.
- They are homely because although some species migrate, they generally stay in the same place throughout the year.
- It is the only species of bird that has no crop, so what you eat happens to be digested immediately.
- To take care of their great and incredible eyes they have 3 eyelids, which is amazing.
