A little about Kiwi
Hello Steemians, it's me again Pedro! And I will tell you a little about the Kiwi and I do not mean the fruit ^.^
The Kiwi is a non-flying bird of the islands of New Zealand for thousands of years, you will not find anywhere else, that is the reason to be the national bird of New Zealand. There are 5 species of Kiwi, these birds can not fly like the penguins, the ostrich among other birds. The kiwi is a small bird measures 25cm to 45cm in height and weighs from 1kg to 3kg.
The female is larger than the male, both are partners throughout their lives although in some cases the female changes partners. To woo it the male must go after it and follow it for a time until it is accepted as well as "some" human relations. In late winter and early summer the female lays a single egg that is quite large compared to her body which accounts for 20% of the female's weight. Later the males take care of the egg for approximately 10 weeks. Once the baby leaves the shell, they must get the food by themselves but it is because they feed on the yolk that remains in the shell for a few days and then they must prepare for the world of a bird that can not fly.
Its wings are very small 3cm and are attached to its body, its legs are strong and muscular so it is a running bird. The kiwi is such a fast animal that it surpasses the speed of some humans, because they do not fly their feathers have evolved into a unique texture to adapt to a ground-based lifestyle are quality and look loose and fluffy fur. Until a few years ago it was believed that the Kiwi was a nocturnal animal since it was seldom seen during the day, but it turns out that they prefer to rest in their burrow and go out at night to get their food.
Kiwi also have predators that are mostly cats, dogs and dogs, the kiwi lacks sternum. In addition with the beginning of the colonization the grasslands of the kiwi were destroyed for that reason the fragility of the kiwi by attack of predators increased almost leading them to the extinction, reason why is considered a bird threatened.
