Dance of the Damselfly
Yesterday, at Lake Burley Griffin, I watched as a group of damselflies hovered and courted and mated over the lake.
Damselflies are similar to Dragonflies. They sit with their wings folded as opposed to spread, as is the case with the Dragonflies. They also tend to be smaller and daintier.
They are attracted to this spot to court and mate and lay their eggs on the water weeds seen in the photos. The larvae will then have an aquatic start to their life.
When mating, they fly along, tightly clasped together.
