The capybara is the largest rodent in the world. The capybara is capable of growing up to four and a half feet long, stand two feet high, and even reaches weights of up to 150 lbs. “Capys,” as they are often nicknamed, are native to Central and South America where they live near bodies of water in swamps, rivers, and marshes. These barrel-shaped rodents are able to stay underwater up to five minutes at a time, which is vital when hiding from predators. They feed off mainly water plants and grass, which they chew on with their long front teeth.
