Johnny - Saved from the pet food factory

This is Johnny. I bought Johnny for next to nothing at the Echuca horse sales last year. He is a standardbred (ex-pacer/trotter). He would no doubt have ended up in a can of Pal if I hadn't bought him. Thousands of unwanted horses that can't run fast enough end up in the same place each year. I understand dogs and cats have to eat too, and that animals are mostly seen to have lesser value than the dominant species on the planet. Racing of animals for the most part is a throw away industry. Sure some horses are kept, and some owners go to great lengths to find good homes after their racing career is over, but they are in the minority. I would encourage anyone who is able, to consider rehoming one of these lovely animals. With a bit of TLC they make great companions for other horses, and with some patience and re-training, are often able to be given a positive purpose in life. I have spent a lot of time doing ground work with Johnny, and he is able to be ridden around the farm to earn his keep, but mostly he just enjoys hanging out with his paddock mates.
