Long-necked giraffe is believed to live longer than short-necked so that the feature can be passed down from generation to generation.

Not infrequently the children also asked why this animal has a long neck.

Most parents will then answer that the giraffe's neck serves to help them eat the leaves in the tall trees.

This very popular explanation is one of the two most commonly used theories to explain why giraffes evolved to have long necks.

First coined in 1809, French naturalist Jean Baptise Lemarck mentions that the giraffe's long neck is a form of survival when feeding.
