The honeybees cover about seven species of bees in the genus Apis, out of about 20,000 species. Currently known about 44 subspecies. They produce and store the honey produced from nectarbunga. In addition they also make a nest of the night, produced by the worker bees in the colony of honeybees.
Honey bees that exist in nature of Indonesia is A. andreniformis, A. cerana and A. dorsata, and special in Borneo A. A. koschevnikovi.
Honey bees have been known by humans since the days of ancient cultures several thousand years ago.
In Islam, the Qur'an specifies the honey bee to be a title of An Nahl (Bee Honey). In one verse (Surah An Nahl verses 68-69 it says: And your Lord revealed to the bees: Make the nests in the hills, in the trees and in the places made by men, and then eat from each (kind of) fruits and travel the way of your Lord who has been easy.But from the stomach of the bee it comes out drinks (honey) a variety of colors, in it there is a cure that heals for humankind.In fact in that there is a sign (greatness of God ) for people who think.
Honey bee cultivation that is now popular comes from the Mediterranean region (North Africa, southern Europe and Asia Minor) which continues to spread throughout the world. Ancient Egyptians made a funnel from clay as a beehive, then from a wicker basket. In Africa honeybees are kept in cylindrical wooden blocks and nests are hung on trees.
