Photo of the day in Antarctica ~ Fin Whale!
Well, I spent hours and hours on the outer observation decks and the bridge scanning the horizon for blows from whales. I had almost given up hope but I did know we were arriving close to the continental shelf of Antarctica so I decided to push on and continue scanning.
Before I knew it around 4pm ~ blows about 3 miles away!!! I was so happy to finally have my hours of staring through binoculars had paid off. Before long after the ship had deviated from its current course in order to investigate what species of whale it was, we had a large Fin whale next to the vessel.
Fin Whales are the second largest whale in the world just a tad smaller than a Blue Whale

A few surfacings later we had past this one that is pictured above and I spotted at least 4 more around the vessel at various distances away. Tomorrow is going to be one hell of a day!!
