Review of the latest Oppo Find X2 Pro smartphone

Not everyone will have heard of Oppo, but if you are a fan of Android smartphones then it can be hard not to. The Chinese brand officially arrived in the UK on 29 January 2019 and has since gained traction, developing an impressive line of handsets in less than two years that have managed to make heads turn.

You may have seen their last year's Reno series, which featured a sexy frameless screen. However, what actually gets people talking is the front-facing snapper, which pops up from the top of the smartphone every time you launch the selfie camera app.

While the same sleek design doesn't appear on Oppo's latest flagship phone - the Find X2 Pro, which we're reviewing here - it still boasts a number of other features that we'd love to test. Here's our review.

Design
To look at it, the Find X2 Pro isn't anything out of the ordinary. Yes, our black ceramic review device has a very sleek and sleek look, but it's all left very minimal, complemented by smooth edges and a nearly frameless screen. You can't really blame us for being a little disappointed, though - as we mentioned earlier - the company's last flagship does have a pop-up selfie camera!

While the Find X2 Pro won't give you a headache, it's a pretty, well-crafted phone that touts the silent aesthetic that might appeal to most new smartphone buyers.

Something you won't know just by looking at it, is that the handset has an IP68 rating, which means it is waterproof and can be completely submerged in water up to one meter for 30 minutes. Useful if you are prone to accidents or tend to drop your phone down the toilet or in the shower.

Screen
One of the best features on the Find X2 Pro is the AMOLED screen. Measuring 6.78-inches, it's definitely a hand full, but just in a good way. Slight curves to the left and right of the screen mean the bezels are barely visible, and then the QHD + 1440 x 3168 resolution offers flawless video playback, aided only by the unobtrusive and unobtrusive design of the punch-hole selfie camera. hampers the screen viewing experience.

We were especially impressed by the look of the Find X2 Pro as it offers the details you find on high-end phones priced at £ 300 or more.

Performance and battery
With Qualcomm's latest and greatest Snapdragon 865 processor along with a massive 12GB of RAM, the Find X2 Pro won't give you anything to worry about in terms of performance. Apps are opened instantly without lag and they are all, genetically, very responsive; how it should be.

Unlike Huawei's last few releases, Oppo's latest handsets run the latest version of Android and means you have access to Google's suite of apps, luckily. The UI is simple, easy to use and doesn't come full of bloatware like some Android phones do. Overall, you get a very minimal OS experience, similar to what you'll find on handsets running Android OS, like the Pixel series of phones, for example.

In terms of battery performance, the Find X2 Pro offers a 4,260mAh battery which, on average use, will keep you right for about a day - or in some cases - a day and a half before it dies. Obviously, if you are the type of user who is fixated on Instagram every minute this will decrease significantly, so it all depends on your usage and whether you are mostly connected to WiFi or 4G / 5G (the latter will drain your juice faster FYI).

One of the most impressive things about this battery, however, is its fast charging capability, which makes it recharge from zero to 100% in less than 40 minutes. It's pretty shocking to see it quickly flow before your eyes, and something we'd like to see on smartphones as standard in the years to come. Loss? There's no wireless charging support, but it's not something we use very often.

Camera
If you want to take selfie holes, the Find X2 Pro doesn't disappoint.

On the front, there is a 32MP punch-hole style selfie camera that makes incredibly clear shots of you and your friend (or pet) - even in low light. Comparing the images we produced at night with those on our Huawei P40 Pro Plus, we actually prefer the results on Oppo handsets, which - we might add - are much cheaper. This may be because Oppo has spent time making sure the Find X2 Pro camera performs better in low light than its competitors. They do this, we're told, by incorporating a custom-made Sony sensor u
