Musings of a Reformed Communist
I have been a voluntaryist anarchist for just about a decade now. I have never decided to change how I think since that point.
I still believe the initiation of force is an absolute wrong. I still believe in the competency of the individual and the notion that people ultimately own themselves. I still believe governments should always be abolished and forgotten in the dustbin of human history.
It is true I have made some tweaks to the philosophy in the form of relational anarchism, but I still believe the underlying principles of voluntaryism to be mostly true.
I am making this post because I am proud. I am proud that I have valued my principles and have honored them ever since I adopted anarchism so long ago. It shames me to see that many who have considered themselves "anarchists" drop off as either alt-right fascists or Marxist communists.
To me, this just demonstrates that some people are either duplicitous or never fully adopted the philosophy to begin with. In my opinion, if you understand the principles of anarchism and the formulas of Austrian economics, it's rather difficult to discard those in service of another, more authoritarian philosophy.
I remember when I was a young socialist. I had been brainwashed by college and had read ample Marxian literature.
However, it just took me one read through of Rothbard's "For a New Liberty" and he had utterly dismantled everything I knew about communism. Since that day, I have not turned my back on the principles I hold dear. I have only embraced them more intensely and pridefully.
Addendum: A couple of observations I have made perusing the interwebs today.
Being wealthy is not immoral alone.
You can't argue positively for primitivism while making your arguments via your iPhone while using cell phone tower technology.
Communism requires force in order for equal distribution of wealth and goods to be realized.

Really glad you made it out of socialism.

That's a difficult one to explain to the entrenched. How did you finally get to the point of seeing it?
(was it a book, or just logically thinking through the concept)
happy 10th birthday bro ;) once you evolve, there is no going back :D
socialism (becasue communism isn't even achievable) requires an authority to enforce the homogeneity, which is outnatured. It is against all the knowledge humans have. socialism means that someone will count the value of things. how many apples is an orange worth? how much is a cow's ear worth for someone who makes processor coolers and how will he be convinced exactly about the value? if you order people to not trade freely and as openly, however they wish, as long as nobody gets hurt or defrauded, it is not freedom, nor voluntary, nor humane, nor smart... and definitely not anarchism :)
