July of 2020, having put in countless hours of work you have become one of the biggest nonwhales on the platform, clever altcoin purchases using SBD makes you a comfortable sum outside of steemit as well.
August of 2020, buying into steem during a dip in the price allows you to trully become a whale, you are now one of the 20 largest users on the platform.
December of 2020 another whale, upset that you have earned your status through effort and not by being born rich declares war on you, every posts and comment is downvoted by an army of bots.
February 2021 the war goes merrily on, minnows, redfish, even dolphins on both sides are utterly destroyed.
April 2021 The war hasn't gone well for you, but now your own army is powered up and ready to go. The battles intesify.
June 2021 with your tactics proving superior, and with the support of the real users in the community you begin to win the war, slowly at first, but more clearly as time passes.
July 2021 for the first time since the war began the enemy whale tries making peace, but acts like he is doing it for you, not himself. You remember the many people who had their accounts destroyed and work wasted. You decline.
December of 2021 just in time for christmas and the one year anniversary of the war, the enemy whale surrenders and begins the final powerdown, he is leaving steemit forever.
January 2022. You are now among the top 5 largest whales on steemit and have an army of bots on your side. You begin a curation program to help those damaged in the war. You are regarded as a hero.

That sounds like an epic battle. I sure hope I have the stamina for it. My trouble is that I don't know how to tell who is a whale. I'm also glad that I have a couple years to build up from borrowed Steem to whale Steem.
