Village Church

in #americaningermany6 years ago (edited)

My son and I were out walking this morning and I snapped a picture of this church built in the 1700s.

Even with my disdain for the Christian religion I still appreciate the beauty and history of this building and the people who worshipped and are buried here. Given our geographical location, you can be certain that this was once sacred Native European ground now claimed by the Church that stands as a reminder that Europe bowed to the invading religion, similar to what is happening today.

If you go back far enough, I could easily be related to some of the graveyard’s inhabitants. It's my hope that, never again, will my family be buried under a Christian cross.

Howdy sir badger! hey that church looks pretty dang fantastic for being built in the 1700's! What religion is invading today? you talking about immigrants?

Pretty amazing huh? I visited the cathedral in Cologne and that one is almost 800 years old! Yup that's what I'm talking about!

sir badger! I love the historic old buildings but Germany lost a ton of them in the war didn't they?

Yes sadly, the British began targeting housing complex in the beginning of the war and as a result, blitzkrieg began and after that everything was fair game. Cities like Hannover were over 80% destroyed.

Howdy today sir badger! yes sir, war is hell as you know. I wish we could have peace in the world but I think that's a long way off. I suppose you see old buildings in some areas still with damage from bombings or with bullet holes?

In Holland, there was a bunch with bullet holes saw and then they preserved this bombed out church in Hannover as a memorial for the dead civilians of the city. You can walk through it. I'm, sure there's a bunch.

Yes sir badger I'm sure they wanted to get rid of any signs of war for many years but now it would be a good reminder I think since it was so long ago and most people weren't around then.
