How to be American
What does it mean to be American? Does it mean you stand during the pledge, or the national anthem? Is it signing up for the military, because your told someone has attacked us? How do you be an american?
A couple things All americans believe in are freedom, national security, and the government is corrupt, but everyone views these topics differently.
Freedom, to some, is viewed as the ability to eat, drink, and have all the luxuries of life at your finger tips. To others it is silence, solitude and the hardships of nature. Others are caught in between. But no matter how you view freedom, if it respects; life, liberty, and property, then it is accepted by the u.s. constitution, ehich makes it american.
National Security, the ability to defend our country, is very important to all. It is one of the reasons most people immigrate to the u.s. we can defend our country, and therefore its people in the 'big picture.' The extent of our national security is alway debated. Should our national security carry our troops into foreign countries for years on end, or should it end at international waters? Is national security something that extends beyond military defense? The ability to protect our nation, including the natural resources within our borders is very important. It should be more than an emergency effort made by relief agencies, and more than something we passively do to make us feel like we did something.
Now government corruption is something totally different. We ALL believe the government is corrupt, but we aren't doing what we need to, to change the government. By that i mean we are not REMOVING those people, who allow this corruption to reign free, from out government.
We have the ability to change how our government is ran, and it IS THE RIGHT TO VOTE. These people are NOT guaranteed a position, but you ARE guaranteed the right to tell these people that they no longer belong in office
Voting for a different congressional delegate does 2 things: 1st it shows your distaste in the current congressmen, 2nd if the congressmen keeps,their spot they are pressured to perform the way their voters want or risk loosing their seat.
In conclusion, how does one be American? So long as you respect; life, liberty and property, excersise your duty to protect your nation through more than military means, and USE your right to vote, then you are as american as they come.
The most important part of all this is to vote!! If not for the president then primarily you congressmen, federal and state congressmen.
